Some 2,300 police officers Police in West Yorkshire are using BlackBerrys to run real-time Police National Computer checks on suspects. An application called StreetWYSE lets them check for known offenders with the name entered, as well as ‘sounds like’ and pictures. This cuts down the time taken to deal with suspects and has helped to cut out false positives. West Yorkshire Police says the project has already delivered an £8.8m return on investment, though it does obviously rely on the suspect providing their correct name.
