Carphone Launch eBay Rival

Networks & Network Services
Following The Carphone Warehouse's turbulent week, they've now launched an online auction site specifically for mobile phones. Mymobileauction.com will take on the likes of eBay as the favourite way for people to sell their old handsets.
In a country with more handsets than people, Carphone hopes the site, www.mymobileauction.com, will rival online auction giant eBay as Britons look to recoup a bit of cash from their old phones after upgrading to newer, swankier models.

With potential buyers and the police both concerned that online sales will provide an outlet for thieves to sell stolen handsets, Carphone will check the IMEI of each handset sold against a stolen phones database before they go on sale.

"This adds a new and important dimension to the trust and security aspect of the new site," said Adrian Portlock, managing director of the firm that runs the CheckMEND database

Carphone Warehouse marketing director Tristia Clarke said that with customers changing their phones so often the new site "offers the perfect opportunity to sell on old handsets".

It is currently free to place phones on the site but customers will be charged £1.25 per handset from 17 November.
