Samsung P300

There aren’t many phones that look like a retro pocket calculator, but don’t let that put you off.

The wide format allows for a landscape display and widely spaced keys, albeit in a slightly non-standard layout; it’s slim (at 9mm it’s the thinnest handset on the UK market), feels very professional (lots of matt-finished metal), and looks good.

It’s mega-cute. And the spec is basically the D500, which is no bad thing – especially the excellent display and a decent 1.3 megapixel camera. You get a generous 80Mb of internal memory, too, which is just as well since there’s no memory card slot.

Yes, there are other premium-price phones with more features and more functionality. But the P300 isn’t too far off the pace, and it does have some very clever bits – notably a second battery built into the flip-open leather case that comes with the P300. This can power the handset when the phone is in the case, and both batteries can be charged at the same time. Shame that the case muffles the speaker, so you can’t hear the phone ring too well ...

Unique styling, and that second battery is a real winner.
