SONY ERICSSON W850i

The W850 is yet another Walkman, which is no bad thing – and this time it comes as a slider.
It boasts a large display with QVGA resolution, full 3G capabilities with video calls, a good 2mp camera, and the latest Walkman 2.0 music player. Other goodies include Sony Ericsson’s high quality 2mp camera, a hot-swappable memory card (and a 1GB card is included), and a a standard 3.5mm headset adapter in the box.

Being picky, we’d complain about the unergonomic navigation pad, the lack of autofocus on the camera, and the ancient QCIF (176×144) resolution for video recording. But we’re really pleased with Sony Ericsson’s first attempt at slider: the W850 is a nice handset offering loud and clear music reproduction and a rich retail package.

Incidentally, we first saw the W850 in the DaVinci Code movie – used not as a music player but purely for its web browsing. Which probably says something about its versatility.

• The Don wasn’t so keen, but we think this could be the next massive Walkman.
