TV phones exempt from licensing laws

Under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967, anyone who sells equipment capable of receiving television programmes is legally obliged to notify TV Licensing of customers’ names and the address where the equipment is to be installed. But under new regulations which came into force on 1 April this year, handsets which can receive TV programmes are specifically excluded – if you sell a TV-capable phone, you do not need to notify TV Licensing.
