8 million broadband connections by 2005?

In February 2004 BT announced that the number of ADSL (Broadband) connections in the UK had exceeded two million & they now estimate eight million broadband connections will have been installed by 2005.

It is also predicted that the UK will overtake western Europe in terms of ADSL connections per head of population by 2006. Internet penetration in UK business is high, with 64 per cent of small businesses and 94 per cent of medium-sized ones adopting it.

The driver in business broadband will be the applications which include voice over IP (VOIP) which reduces costs and offers increase functionality, remote back up offering off site data security, video conferencing allowing meetings to take place without the hasstles of travel on busy roads and teleworking for increased productivity.
