802 Event WiFi Takes on Sales and Marketing Director

802 Event WiFi has strengthened its boardroom presence with the appointment of a UK sales and marketing director.

Felix Gibson, chief executive of the Lanarkshire-based firm, has appointed Lauren Gibson to spearhead a strategic expansion into a wide range of new activities, from new stadia ventures to community-level WiFi roll-out.

Ms Gibson, 27, who joined the company this summer, obtained her Masters degree in pharmacy from the University of Strathclyde and since completing her traineeship in 2010, has been engaged in a number of positions across Scotland.

She said: "I am delighted to have been invited to join the firm at a time when it is taking such important strides towards its goal of becoming one of the UK’s

leading WiFi solutions providers.

"Its undoubted expertise, as illustrated by the ground-breaking international deal at Ibrox this year, places 802 Event WiFi among a select few companies in the UK capable of such innovative and forward-thinking projects."

Ms Gibson said that her interest in the potential of technology to beneficially alter people's lives was piqued when she was on a gap year from university and travelled widely in the Far East.

She said: "I spent considerable time in Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand and I was very impressed at the essentially city-wide WiFi provision in these places. People there expected to be able to use all their mobile appliances, such as tablets, laptops and phones, wherever they were, regardless of the numbers of people around them who were also connected.

"I am a great believer in anything that makes life easier and more convenient, and widely available WiFi is the key to making that happen."

Ms Gibson pointed out that the deal between Rangers and giant Chinese company Huawei brings the Ibrox fans into a whole new era of in-depth, WiFi-based engagement with the club.

She said: "This will allow small businesses not only to offer an improved service to their customers but also to gain valuable insights into the demographic of their customer base and employ sophisticated analytics to further enhance their service and reach."

Felix Gibson said: "I am delighted to be welcoming Lauren to the firm. She has already proved herself as a very capable and competent business person in her professional capacity within the pharmaceutical world.

"I am sure that the qualities of determination, dedication and insistence on the highest level of quality and customer service which she displayed there will translate very effectively into her new and important role with 802 Event WiFi."
