86 percent of ISVs see increase in demand for mobile applications, finds Progress Software

Move to cloud-based applications and mobility is biggest trend for Progress Software Applications Partners

As many as 86 percent of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) recently polled have said that they have been impacted by the sustained demand for m-commerce solutions and mobile transactions, according to the findings of a new survey conducted by Progress Software Corporation.

The study, which was completed by Progress Software’s top EMEA Application Partners examined their views on the biggest trends and challenges in today’s market at the company’s annual partner event in Palma, found that well over three quarters of ISVs had seen an increase in demand for mobile applications from their customers. It also identified a growing trend amongst leading ISVs towards developing their own mobile applications, with 68 percent of respondents stating that they had mobile applications in development, and almost one in three (32 percent) stating that they were also offering Business Process Management (BPM) functionality to their customers.

Meanwhile, of the 29 partners surveyed, 76 percent of respondents believedthat cloud computing was amongst the biggest trends to affect their business, with 75 percent stating that they had already seen demand from customers for cloud-based applications while 53 percent of respondents felt that virtualisation was one of the biggest trends to impact their business.

Recent studies from research firm Gartner suggest that the global mobile transaction volume and value will average 42 percent annual growth between 2011 and 2016. With a projected market worth of $617 billion, and more than 448 million users by 2016, this study emphasises the fact that ISVs have identified mobile applications as a key revenue driver.”
