Affiniti Grab Schools Broadband Contract

Affiniti has been awarded a contract by integrated applications and managed service provider Synetrix, to provide high-speed bandwidth to over 600,000 pupils and teachers across the East Midlands.

The network will be used by Synetrix and its customer embc Procurement Limited – a Local Authority Company owned by Derbyshire, Leicester City, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland – to connect people to learning. The deal is initially for three years but with the possibility of a two year extension.

The network together with the advanced application and security services delivered and supported by Synetrix, will enable 2,100 schools, their students and staff, to enjoy safe and secure internet access, and will connect them into the learning community. Through the network they can access Synetrix’ advanced educational systems, similar to a social networking site, where they can share schoolwork and teaching online, chat with and email each other and create their own personalised web sites, but within a secure community of registered users. Additional benefits include 24 hour access to the UK’s most advanced educational multimedia technology, tailored access to the internet depending on the type of school, user connected and their requirements, as well as reliable and resilient access to the internet.
