Avaya Unveils one-X Quick Edition for Very Small Offices

The announcement went almost unnoticed in Europe but Comms Business Magazine can report that Avaya has launched their new one-X Quick Edition at VoiceCon Spring 2006, March 6-9, in Orlando, Florida.

one-X Quick Edition is a plug-and-play SIP-based "server-less" solution for small offices with fewer than 20 people. The new solution represents the first offering from Avaya that utilises technology from Nimcat Networks, a Canada-based developer of IP communications applications software acquired by Avaya in September 2005.

Nimcat Networks' IP communications software is embedded within an IP telephone, placing intelligence in the phone and eliminating the need for traditional PBX hardware. Installation is simple - phones are plugged into the Local Area Network (LAN) and start-up begins automatically. Web-based system administration is used to manage phones locally and remotely. A user interface enables easy access to options and popular telephony features, including call forwarding, call logging, redial, transfer, Caller ID, 3-way conferencing (with conference chaining), do not disturb, hold, internal and external paging, 100-number directory, voice mail (20 minute storage per phone) and auto attendant.

Currently available in North America with plans for worldwide distribution, Avaya's one-X Quick Edition lists for $485 to $585 per phone, including the IP Phone (Avaya 4610SW or 4621SW) and embedded software. An optional 4-port analog trunk gateway connects phones to the PSTN.
