BT Launch VoIP ‘Office in a Box’ for Small Business - £4 a Week Rental

BT has launched a new “office in a box” that they say brings together all of a small business’ communications needs in a single, affordable desktop box.

Called BT Micro, BT claim the new product removes the cost and inconvenience of supporting many separate devices such as DECT cordless telephones, broadband modems and wireless routers and replaces them with a single compact unit. BT Micro also allows low-cost calls over the internet when used in combination with BT Broadband Voice, for which a BT Business line is required.

BT Micro is aimed at small businesses that use a single telephone line. It offers them the potential of adding two BT Broadband Voice lines, if required. Its “plug-and-play” and step-by-step installation guide make it easy to install. Once running, its telephone features, such as voicemail and music-on-hold, allow small businesses to provide the type of customer experience that up until now has only been available on larger, more expensive systems.

BT Micro’s LAN capability connects computers and other devices around the office. Its wireless DECT telephone along with Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) frees people from their desks, meaning that staff can move around the building without missing a call or an e-mail. BT Micro’s data functionality is backed by professional security features such as internet firewalls, helping to protect a small businesses’ online presence.

Bill Murphy, managing director, BT Business, said: “BT Micro brings together everything a small business needs and packages it in a compact and affordable desktop box.

“It is a brand new product using leading edge technology that provides businesses using one telephone line with the convenience of broadband, office networking and mobility with a single number to call for dedicated helpdesk support.”

BT Micro is available to any small business in the UK from £345 to buy outright (inclusive of VAT) or just £3.95 per week rental, The minimum rental period is two or three years depending on rental fee.

The VoIP capability is exclusive to BT customers with BT Business Broadband and BT Business Broadband Voice, giving up to two extra voice channels. With Broadband Voice Plus, businesses can enjoy a flat top tariff that allows all UK calls for a monthly fee of £19.99 per line.
