Colt announces VMware vCloud Suite 5.1 datacenter estate in Europe

Colt Technology Services announced that it is the first service provider to implement a pan-European vCloud platform, based on the new VMware vCloud Suite 5.1. Colt now operates the largest and most extensive vCloud Datacenter Service estate in Europe. Colt is also building on these extended vCloud capabilities by launching complementary backup and disaster recovery services for vCloud, designed specifically to address the needs of its channel partners.

The availability of Colt’s vCloud services across Europe will enable customers in any Colt country to access enterprise cloud services from Colt data centres in the UK, France, Spain and Germany. These services will deliver increased flexibility in terms of networking, storage and commercial consumption models that fit more closely with individual customer requirements

“We’re delighted that Colt has built on its strategic and award-winning relationship with VMware, by being one of the very first service providers world-wide to leverage VMware’s vCloud Suite 5.1 to power its pan-European, enterprise-grade cloud platform”. Said Gavin Jackson, Director of Cloud Services & Partners, EMEA at VMware. “Since becoming the first vCloud Datacenter Service Provider in EMEA, Colt has expanded to having the largest deployment of the service by geography in EMEA, by utilising its expansive network infrastructure and managed services expertise to serve its customers”.

Colt has also developed a number of complementary services which will enable resellers to build and manage business continuity solutions for their customers. These services will allow Colt’s reseller community to manage backup and restore and disaster recovery for vCloud services. Colt has developed Proof of Concepts with Symantec and Zerto which will be demonstrated exclusively at VMWorld Europe 2012.

“We were the first European-based partner with a VMware vCloud Datacenter Services offering and we have worked closely with VMware’s development teams to ensure the latest vCloud software release meets the specific needs of our enterprise customers and partner community,” said Mark Leonard, Executive Vice President, Colt. “VMware’s recognition of the customer need for heterogonous infrastructure and its commitment to an open API-centric strategy means our enterprise customers will be able to build solutions from a broad service portfolio. Also, based on feedback from our resellers, we are seeing real demand for new channel-friendly solutions for vCloud backup and disaster recovery. These new offerings will help resellers operate their own services in this area.”
