Compact ATCA performance from Rittal

Rittal have expanded their ATCA product range with the addition of two new versions of a 5U ATCA shelf with six horizontal slots at the front. Due to its design, Rittal say the system can be used everywhere high performance is needed but where space is at a premium e.g. a test or development system, or where a full 12/13U ATCA shelf provides too great a capacity.

The 5U shelf version meets the PICMG 3.0 Rev2.0 specification. Included are two pull-out fan units (including filters) which guarantee efficient cooling output up to 200 watts per slot at the front and 30 watts in the RTM area. The unit is wired, tested and equipped with a Dual Star backplane (6 slot) and Pigeon Point or Intel Wagon Tire shelf management controller. The new design also complies with the RoHS directive.

(The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.)

In addition to 6 front plug-in slots, there is the capacity for 2 rear RTMs in slots 1 and 2. The 19” x 5U x 400mm deep unit includes a 1000W AC power supply or DC PEMS (Power Entry Modules) depending on the model, and is complete with a triple replicated Mesh / Dual Star backplane of 5+1 slots to maximise performance.
