Computer 2000 completes management board line-up

Computer 2000, the UKbIT and communication products distribution group, has announced the completion of its management board, naming of Jim Michel as Managing Director UK and Ireland for Brightstar Europe.

His appointment of follows the arrival of Colin McGregor, who joined as Director, Azlan UK in September, and that of Peter Hubbard, who was named Sales Director of Computer 2000 in June. These highly experienced figures join David Watts, who was appointed Commercial Director of the company, also in June; Marketing Director, Andy Dow; and Andy Gass, Managing Director, as the customer- and vendor-facing members of Computer 2000’s board.

Four directors who are responsible for the core operational functions of the business complete the management board: Debbie Ryan, HR Director; Steve Philp, Operations Director; Nick Clifton, Logistics Director; and Phil James, Financial Director.

Gass stated: “With the great depth of knowledge and experience we now have on the management board, we are ready to launch the next phase of our business development strategy. At the start of this year we set our sights on achieving significant growth by investing and driving our Collection of Specialists strategy and by leveraging our unique multi-model approach to the market. This is already delivering positive results and with the quality and commercial insight we now have on our board of directors, we are confident that we can continue setting the pace in the distribution sector– both in terms of delivering the best levels of service and driving growth for our reseller customers and vendor partners.”

Jim Michel brings close to 15 years of experience in the mobile market to Brightstar. A well-known and respected figure in the sector, he has held a number of senior positions with both manufacturers and network operators. He will provide the strategic leadership and vision to drive the business towards the objective of becoming the UK’s number-one distributor of smartphone devices and data services.

He has joined Brightstar from LG Electronics, where he was Head of the UK Mobile Division. Before that he served as Vice President of UK and Ireland for leading telecoms manufacturer Motorola. In the formative years of mobile phone development, Michel controlled UK purchasing at Vodafone, before furthering his career at T-Mobile as Head of the Terminals Division.

Michel said: “I’m look forward to taking Brightstar to the next stage of its development in the UK and Ireland and also to working with the Computer 2000 management board to help the group move towards its strategic objectives.”

Colin McGregor brought more than ten years of hands-on experience in enterprise distributionto Azlan. Previously, he ran a specialist consultancy business and spent held a number of senior positions with Bell Micro. McGregor is responsible continuing the development of Azlan’s enterprise infrastructure and networking solutions propositions, with the aim of delivering consistent and reliable levels of service to resellers, maximising partner relationships and driving sustainable business growth.

Peter Hubbard previously spent 11 years in senior sales roles with Dell, IBM and Silicon Graphics. Andy Dow joined in his present role in April 20120 having spent a more than a decade in senior sales and marketing positions at major IT distributors and vendors. Both David Watts and Andy Gass have held key strategic roles at Computer 2000 for a number of years.
