Elite Runners Raise 4,000 for Charity

Training and team work has paid off for a trio of runners from Elite Telecom who raised nearly 4,000 for Cancer Research by competing in the BUPA Great North Run.

Project Manager Claire Newing, New Business Development Manager Andy Turton and Sales Director Simon Cutler, who are all based at Elite’s St Helens headquarters, were part of the 50,000-strong field of runners who took part in the world’s largest half marathon on September 30th. The race started in Newcastle and finished in South Shields.

Claire Newing says: “It was an absolutely fantastic day. We have competed in half marathons and marathons before but we wanted to make a real effort for this one and raise as much as we could. The atmosphere was brilliant, we had friends and family cheering us on and we were pleased with our personal times too.”

The Elite running team has been raising money for a number of charities, including Diabetes UK and Willowbrook Hospice in St Helens, for the past four years and they are already planning their 2008 schedule. Claire’s next race is the Liverpool half marathon in March and Simon is aiming to compete in three marathons next year, including Berlin and Madrid

Claire adds: “We have all been bitten by the running bug and we support one another when we are training or competing. Knowing that we are helping charities really keeps us going.”
