Gaydar app enhanced for iPhone and Android

The Gaydar iPhone app has been updated to include new features including chat and push notifications, and the already popular app is now also available to download for Android users, but with slightly reduced functionality.

The app integrates the most popular features of Gaydar including Friends & Favourites, Tracks, Messages and Search, and offers sophisticated features and safety tools not available on similar apps.

The iPhone app now also features chat functionality allowing users to connect with other guys on the go as well as share their location, photos from their Gaydar gallery or direct from their device galleries or camera.

Additionally, if iPhone users are busy and can’t chat they’ll now be notified via push notifications that they have guys waiting to chat to them, and all conversations are saved.

Other features of the Gaydar app include: ‘Nearby’ search displaying profiles of those logged into the app using location based services and online Gaydar profiles that have their GPS (Gaydar Positioning System) location set with postcodes or longitude and latitude; Google maps feature embeds maps into messages sent via the app when guys are ready to meet. Maps can be viewed by both App and Web customers; The ability to play in nine languages including French, Italian and Spanish.

All of Gaydar’s 12 million photos have been rated by the inhouse customer relations team to abide by Apple’s guidelines and ensure public content is suitable for all ages. The app automatically selects a non-adult photo for display in public areas of the app. However, guys looking to show off additional ‘assets’ can attach up to five private photos to messages. Safety is also key to the app’s Nearby function, displaying searches at a minimum of 75 metres away no matter how close someone is.

Simon Johnson, product manager at Gaydar, commented: “The app is set to take our users’ social life to the next level by enabling them to arrange mates and dates on the go. The chat functionality in particular is great as it enables instant connectivity meaning there’s no waiting around for messages, and users can share as many photos as they like. Better still, the LBS means users can hook up for with other guys any time. The app is a great addition to the Gaydar family, and perfect for keeping in touch with Friends and finding new Favourites regardless of the user’s location.”

iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 users can download the app free from the App Store. The Android version of the app has also been launched, and the chat and push notifications for this are in development.
