Hosted IP telephony – an easy source of new revenue

Mobile resellers and dealers looking to capture more of their current customer’s communications spend, or to develop more differentiation in their market should be thinking about hosted IP telephony, according to Gamma Telecom.

Gamma’s IP telephony services have been selling through over 400 channel partners for more than three years. The service provider can provide resellers or dealers with an IP telephony service that allows them focus only on selling the solution, with Gamma taking care of the rest, including the customer premises equipment, on site installation, service level guarantees and support.

Richard Bligh, group marketing director at Gamma, stated: “As convergence of fixed and mobile firmly hits the SME market, now is the time for the mobile channel to be entering the IP voice market. We’ve come from a background of working with fixed voice channel players and since the launch of Gamma Mobile last year, about half of our fixed channel partners have started to successfully sell mobility solutions along side our IP telephony services. A converged market is certainly the reality and we’re also seeing more and more traditional mobile partners working with us specifically to deliver hosted telephony.”

The current economic climate is turning many businesses off from investing in IP PBXs because of the relatively larger capital outlay, the long term tie-ins and the inflexibility of scaling up or down the number of users. This is where hosted IP PBXs are gaining ground, said Bligh. He stated that seats can be quickly switched on or off, telephone numbers are flexible and can be moved around independent of location, there is minimal investment required in onsite equipment and businesses still get the feature-rich capabilities they are looking for.

Bligh added: “Many fixed line channel players have been nibbling their way into the mobile market and for mobile resellers and dealers the opportunities are here now to bite back! Selling hosted IP telephony is a natural offering that can help mobile resellers get into their current customer’s communications spend.”
Because Gamma is a fixed and mobile operator it is also able to provide channel partners with more converged fixed-mobile solutions.
