HP builds Telecom and Media Unit

Networks & Network Services
HP has announced it has created a new business unit to address the specific needs of service providers, network equipment suppliers and media companies. The decision, which includes additional investment, reflects HP’s commitment to the communications, media and entertainment (CME) industries.

HP Communications and Media Solutions (HP CMS) consolidates the company’s telecom and digital content management software with industry-specific professional services capabilities, and extends the company’s industry leadership. HP CMS is also closely aligned with recently-acquired EDS, integrating its professional services and offerings for the CME market.

The new unit was created to accelerate solution development and streamline the delivery of solutions, to help communications and media industry customers compete more effectively in a fast-changing market.

HP CMS brings to market complete solutions that include consulting and integration services. As complexity increases, customers need comprehensive solutions that are built with the right mix of both software and services. HP CMS solutions incorporate HP software intellectual property, global services capabilities, server and storage assets, as well as contributions from a large partner community.

Residing within the HP Software and Solutions business, HP CMS incorporates the resources of the HP Communications, Media and Entertainment (CME) unit, the HP OpenCall business unit, and the global CME consulting and integration practices.

“Service providers can reduce cost and risk, while still growing revenue -- by tapping into the HP CMS solutions powerhouse,” said Erwan Menard, vice president and general manager, Communications and Media Solutions, HP. “Our telecom and media customers will see more innovation, faster deployment, and more flexibility in the way they take advantage of HP solutions and services.”
