Huawei Device UK recruits from Everything Everywhere and RIM

Huawei, a global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, is delighted to announce the appointment of Jill Styring as UK and Ireland Marketing Director for Devices.

Styring takes charge of Huawei Device’s brand and marketing functions in the UK and Ireland, and will lead a rapidly expanded marketing team. Her appointment marks the first time Huawei Technologies has employed such a high-profile marketing position for its Devices business in the UK and Ireland, and further supports Huawei’s ambition for its smartphones and brand in the region.

At Everything Everywhere, Styring was Head of Advertising and Search, from January 2010, and Head of Device Marketing Operations from April 2009. Previously, Styring worked at ethnic-market MVNO Lycamobile as Head of Marketing Communications, Vodafone UK as Global Media Manager, and T-Mobile UK as International Communications Manager.

Huawei Device UK and Ireland Executive Vice President Mark Mitchinson said: “I’m delighted Jill has elected to join the Huawei UK family as she is highly experienced and highly regarded in the UK mobile industry. The role she undertakes is crucial to our growth plans for the devices business for the year ahead. Our brand and marketing story will develop through the year, and Jill and her team will drive it and ensure its messaging, tone and creative execution is holistic, imaginative and distinctive.”

Huawei Device UK also confirms the appointment of David Buckingham as Sales Director for the Vodafone account. Buckingham joins from Everything Everywhere.

Buckingham was Head of Portfolio Management for Major Programmes at Everything Everywhere from January 2011, a role which brought together major cross-functional and strategic projects for the network operator. Previously, Buckingham worked at Samsung between 2006 and 2010, as UK Head of Sales and, prior, as UK National Account Manager. He also worked for Virgin Mobile between 1999 and 2006 in project management and operational roles.

Mitchinson said: “I have worked with David previously, rate him among the best account directors in the business, and am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him again. He is the perfect man to help build our business with Vodafone, which is a partner of major strategic importance to Huawei. It is a testament to the progress we have made in the UK in 2011, and the strategy we have set out for 2012, that we are attracting the very best talent in the UK industry; David is at the top of his game.”

Huawei also confirms the appointment of Duc Tinh Van Tri as UK Marketing Manager. Van Tri joins from BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion, where she was Nordics Carrier Marketing Manager and UK Marketing Specialist during the period from February 2009. She will take charge of device marketing for the EE account in the UK, working alongside Account Director Rhys Saunders.

Mitchinson added: “I am really excited by Duc’s appointment; she is hugely talented and hungry for success. She has a wonderful fresh approach and the right level of experience in device marketing. She and Rhys, alongside the existing team on the Everything Everywhere account, will be a force to be reckoned with among rival sales teams.”

Styring starts January 24; Buckingham joins February and Van Tri started January 9.
