LG Arena wins the EISA Green Mobile Phone Award

LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has announced that its LG Arena (LG KM900) has won the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) award for European Green Mobile Phone 2009-2010. The official awards ceremony will take place during the IFA trade show in Berlin on 4 September 2009.

“We design our products with an eye toward sustainability and this award serves as high level confirmation of its eco-friendly credentials,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO at LG Electronics Mobile Communications. “The phone is made from recyclable materials that are free from harmful substances. It is energy efficient and we have even taken steps to reduce environmental impact during manufacturing.”

In designing the handset, the company chose environmentally friendly materials like tempered glass and metal. Furthermore, the number of individual parts in the handset has also been reduced to make it easier to recycle.

Dr Skott Ahn added: “LG Arena’s eco-friendly features directly reflect the company’s environmental policies. We believe that life’s good when it’s green, and we will continue to design eco-friendly products based on this philosophy. We will continue our role as a socially responsible leader in the mobile industry.”

Unveiled as the new flagship multimedia handset at Mobile World Congress 2009 earlier this year, the LG Arena offers an enhanced audio and video experience.

Incorporating multimedia features such as Dolby Mobile and a WVGA display, which is four times sharper than a standard screen, the handset optimises visual impact when viewing video content. It is the first handset to feature LG’s intuitive 3D S-Class user interface (UI) which offers easy access to the array of multimedia features.

In June, the LG Arena won the ‘iF Communication Design Award 2009’ in the Product Interfaces category for its innovative 3D S-Class UI.
