Mitel Kicks Off Forum 2007 in Las Vegas

Mitel has kicked off their Forum 2007 event at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, with product and channel program announcements aimed at increasing its leadership position in the unified communications market.

The company says their three-day conference and tradeshow brings together close to a thousand Mitel customers, partners, distributors and resellers, consultants, and analysts to learn about and experience Mitel’s “presence-everywhere” unified communications solutions. Mitel's decision to cease making their product available via distributors was a UK specific strategy.

“Forum represents an opportunity to assemble the entire Mitel team from customers to partners and distributors to employees to celebrate the success we’re enjoying in the marketplace and lay the foundation for the coming year,” said Doug Michaelides, vice president of global marketing at Mitel. “By showcasing our partners on the Forum tradeshow floor and hosting more than 75 educational sessions throughout the week, Mitel demonstrates its thought leadership in unified communications solutions and our position as a leading provider in the industry.”

A highlight of this year’s conference is Mitel’s recent advancements in its SMB portfolio designed to power business efficiency.

New to the portfolio is Mitel Applications Suite which sets out to simplify installation and administration of systems by combining three Mitel productivity-enhancing applications – Mitel NuPoint Messenger IP, Mitel Teleworker Solution, and Mitel Mobile Extension – on a single server with a unified management interface. This new package allows managers to spend less time and money on implementation and more time on improving how their organization does business.

Other enhancements to products in Mitel’s SMB portfolio include Mitel Your Assistant and Mitel Quick Conference. The Mitel Your Assistant unified communications desktop productivity tool provides person, phone, and computer presence. Its fully featured soft phone allows road warriors and teleworkers to communicate securely and collaborate from any location with a high-speed Internet connection without the need for a virtual private network (VPN) connection.

Mitel Quick Conference, a cost-effective conferencing platform, allows businesses to easily conduct ad hoc audio conferences and take advantage of increased collaboration opportunities among employees, customers, and partners. Supporting up to 200 participants, the flexibility of Quick Conference allows users to coordinate “on the fly” conference calls from any location at any time, without operator assistance.

Mitel recently announced they have entered into a global OEM agreement with Sun Microsystems that will help drive the use of converged voice and data applications in multi-tenant environments. Mitel’s unified communications call control software will be integrated into industry-standard Sun Microsystems servers for enterprise and carrier hosted and customer premise environments. Together, Sun and Mitel have also created a unified solution offering with Mitel’s contact centre software on Sun’s ultra-thin client hardware.

Also new, the Mitel Cordless Handset and Mitel Cordless Headset enable mobility in the workplace for users to travel within a 100-meter range of their desk phone. Supported on the Mitel 5300 series IP phones, the Cordless Handset and Cordless Headset provide the user with the same features as their regular handset while maintaining superior acoustic quality.
