New Layer 3 Switch from Allied Telesis

Allied Telesis has launched their AT-x900-12XT/S, a new Layer 3 switch. The company says the new device addresses market demand for a high-end switch with a low port count, providing exceptional value for money without compromising performance. The AT-x900-12XT/S comes with 12 Gigabit 10/100/1000T or SFP combination ports and one 30Gbps expansion bay.

The new device’s flexible deployment options are ideal for networks that only require a small number of mixed fibre and copper links and eliminates the need for a media converter to utilize both interfaces on the same switch. To further reduce the cost of the AT-x900-12XT/S, Allied Telesis provides a fixed AC power supply with the device instead of the dual, hot swappable units delivered as standard with the other members of the x900 family.

Extensive Quality of Service Feature Set

Allied Telesis’ new AT-x900-12XT/S is delivered with a comprehensive range of low latency QoS features operating at wire speed. These include flow-based traffic management with configurable classification, prioritisation, traffic shaping and minimum/maximum bandwidth profiles. Time-sensitive services like voice and video take precedence over non-critical activities, such as file downloads. With these features, the AT-x900-12XT/S is ideal for customers wanting to guarantee the performance of their key business services, such as VoIP, and increase the reliability and responsiveness of their most important enterprise applications. In addition, service providers benefit from these features by being able to offer bandwidth and performance profiles tailored to each customer’s precise needs.

Easy Expansion

The AT-x900-12XT/S delivers flexible extension options with a 30Gbps expansion bay that can be populated with a range of different modules, including:

AT-XEM-12S 12 x 1000X SFP XEM modules

AT-XEM-12T 12 x 10/100/1000T RJ-45 XEM modules

AT-XEM-1XP 1 x 10GbE XFP XEM module

AT-XEM-STK 2 x 15Gbps stacking modules

Using the stacking modules, customers can stack the AT-x900-12XT/S with any other Allied Telesis x900 switch.

Future-proof Performance

With fully non-blocking switching on all ports, the AT-x900-12XT/S enables IPv4 Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing to operate at wire speed, making it ideal for high-end server deployments. Like the other switches in the x900 series, the new device utilises the newest switch silicon including hardware-based IPv6, effectively future-proofing it for small to medium sized businesses.

“With the launch of the AT-x900-12XT/S, we’re delivering once again on the Allied Telesis promise of the best possible performance at the most cost-effective price point,” said Melvyn Wray, Senior Vice President of Marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis. “The market has a real need for a high-end switch with a mix of 12 copper and fibre ports. With its sophisticated QoS features, the AT-x900-12XT/S delivers unbeatable value and performance to enterprise customers and service providers alike.”
