Nimbuzz, the new generation mobile VoIP operator and social network aggregator, has surpassed one million downloads on Nokia’s Ovi Store and has been downloaded in more than 180 countries.

Nimbuzz’ free to download, free to use application, launched in May 2008, enables millions of users worldwide to enjoy free calls and instant messaging with friends across their own network and favourite online social communities (Skype, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Google Talk (Orkut), ICQ, MySpace, Gadu Gadu and others).

The announcement comes at a time of phenomenal growth for Nimbuzz. Having recently passed the 15 million registration milestone, Nimbuzz now enjoys a current growth rate of over a million new registrations each month (that’s a new Nimbuzz user every two seconds), an active user base of over 30% and an international user footprint of 220 countries, covering every corner of the globe.

Evert-Jaap Lugt, founder and CEO of Nimbuzz, commented: “We are delighted with the success we have seen from Ovi Store by Nokia, which helps us reach 40% of the global handset market in more than 180 countries. It is a great reward for the efforts we have made to offer our mass market application on both Nokia smart phones and feature phones, Making Nimbuzz available to the global Ovi Store audience has paid off tremendously.”
