O2 Chief Appointed Visiting Professor at De Montfort University Leicester

Mike Short, Vice President for Research and Development at mobile network operator O2 has been appointed Visiting Professor at De Montfort University Leicester. He has taken up the position in the University's Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering.

As well as his position at O2, Professor Short holds the key role of Chairman of the Mobile Data Association, a global, not-for-profit organisation representing the telecommunications industry.

Professor Short was also the last European Chairman of the global GSM association (GSMA) and was on the Board for five years. The GSMA is a global trade association representing mobile phone operators, with over three billion customers worldwide.

He has been a member of both the UK Home Office Internet Task Force and the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board, and is a member of the Phonepayplus Board that regulates paid-for telephony services.

Professor Short said: 'It's a great honour to be associated with DMU and share experiences from a fast growth industry with students and researchers of tomorrow."

Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, Head of the School of Engineering and Technology at DMU, said: "We are very pleased to welcome Professor Short to the University.

"His career has been spent at the very forefront of telecommunications technology development and as such he brings invaluable knowledge to share with our students."
