Redstone Secures £13m Project for White City Shopping Centre

Reseller Redstone has been awarded the contract to provide the IP solution for the Westfield shopping centre development in White City which will be Europe’s largest in-town retail centre. The project is worth £13m and is due to be completed by the end of 2008.

The 40 acre Westfield centre will house over 250 retail outlets, a 14 screen cinema and a health spa. Redstone has been brought in to provide a top-end IP and communications system for the entire centre. Redstone’s OneNet solution was developed for this form of “intelligent building” project, whereby the IP solution allows all of the buildings functions to be controlled centrally in addition to a state of the art communications network. Using Cisco technology, Redstone’s solution will even allow individual staff members to correspond throughout the entire centre using lapel badges with built in communication units.

This is another large contract win for Redstone in the Converged Solutions area. Last year the Group announced a contract with Lancashire Building Schools for the Future (BSF) worth up to £16m over 3 years for the initial stage involving nine new schools out of a total of 60 to be built in the scheme. The Group also announced last month the winning of a regional support services contract with JPMorgan worth up to £13.4m over a period of up to five years. Having acquired Comunica in February this year to enhance the Group’s Converged Solutions division, Redstone is in an enviable position to be able to bid on and win these large scale, highly specialised IP infrastructure projects.

Martin Balaam, CEO of Redstone plc, commented, “Being selected to provide our OneNet solution to the largest in-town shopping centre in Europe shows how far Redstone has come in recent years. Our Converged Solutions division has shown that it can repeat its success in winning these large contracts, particularly now that the Comunica team has brought an additional array of expertise and key relationships, as with Westfield.

Reaching the position where Redstone is able to announce over £30m in integrated IT & Communications contracts over the last 12 months is a great achievement. We are active in bidding on similar projects and hope to repeat our successes in this area.”
