Richard Moat new Managing Director at T-Mobile UK

Richard Moat has been appointed the new Managing Director of T-Mobile UK and will be joining the company in June. The 54 year old Briton, who has been the chief executive officer of Orange Romania, will succeed Jim Hyde, who left the company for personal reasons at the end of March.

Hamid Akhavan, chief executive officer at T-Mobile International and member of the board of management at Deutsche Telekom, stated: “Richard has an excellent track record as an executive with significant international experience in the field of telecommunications, and we are delighted that he will be joining us to lead T-Mobile UK. With Richard we have found a highly skilled manager who will build on the successful foundation of T-Mobile in the United Kingdom and who will further develop the company as a leading edge, value adding operator for the benefit of our customers and the T-Mobile Group.”

While Moat commented: “I look forward to joining T-Mobile UK. T-Mobile is a major player in the UK mobile market and has a strong reputation for high value products and services. It is also a leader in mobile broadband and is steadily building real differentiation in the coverage and performance of its 3G network.”

Moat has spent the last 17 years in a variety of key positions within France Telecom’s Orange Group. Before he became CEO for Orange Romania in 2004, Richard held similar positions in Scandinavia and Asia as CEO of Orange Denmark from 2002-2004 and CEO of Orange Thailand from 2000-2002.

Prior to that he was Orange’s international group director of finance and corporate finance director, based in London. Before joining Orange in 1992 he spent twelve years with the USX/Marathon Group in various finance positions. He also spent three years as a financial analyst for Sedgwick PLC/Lloyd’s of London in the late 1970’s.

Moat holds a Diploma in Corporate Finance and Accounting from London Business School and an MA Hons in Law from St. Catharine’s College Cambridge, UK.
