Samsung Apps rides new wave

Samsung Electronics has announced that Samsung Apps will begin offering complimentary downloads of selected applications to coincide with the global launch of its new Samsung Wave series of smartphones, the Wave525 (GT-S5250), Wave533 (GT-S5330), Wave723 (GT-S7230) and Wave575 (GT-S5750).

New Wave handset users can now download selected game apps, dictionary apps, and theme apps for free, including popular programs such as FIFA 10, Tetris Refresh, Spore Creatures, Assassin’s Creed II, DioDict French/English dictionary, Princess Magic Therapy e-book and SSkin theme series.

FIFA10, Tetris Refresh and Spore Creatures will be free for the first 250,000 downloads; Assassin’s Creed for the first 300,000; and the remaining apps for a limited time.

Samsung Apps’ offer is timed with the release of Samsung’s new Wave family of handsets, all of which are based on bada, Samsung’s own smartphone platform. The new Wave family combines advanced functionality and intuitive usability with features that give users a smarter way to stay connected on the go.

“Our new Wave handsets will give us the opportunity to reach more users than ever before and provide a better smartphone experience that suits their lifestyle,” said Kanghyun Kwon, vice president of the Media Solution Centre at Samsung Electronics. “With complimentary programs, we expect Samsung smartphone users to find their new Wave devices more practical and entertaining.”

Samsung Apps for the new Wave family is currently available in the UK, Italy, Germany, France, Singapore, with more countries to follow as the new phones are rolled out.

The introduction of the new phones are expected to boost the number of offerings on Samsung Apps; the application store expanded its coverage and size at rapid pace riding the success of the first Wave handset.

With the new Wave products, developers now have larger market opportunities and can design applications for three additional bada platform phones: the Samsung Wave525, Samsung533, Samsung Wave723.
