Siemens Appoint EquIP as Distributor

Basingstoke based IT and Security Distributor EquIP, which in recent times has been both bought and sold by the Matrix Group and now owned by Irish company Horizon Technology Group, has struck a deal with Siemens to distribute their HiPath series systems.

EquIP is setting up a voice based division with which to attack the convergence market and is also believed to have signed up US based vendor Zultys for their range of enterprise media exchanges (IP PBX systems), IP telephones, and supporting peripherals for VoIP deployment.

David Dyer at Siemens told Comms Business Magazine that his company had been working with distributor Norwood Adam, another part of the Matrix Group and that negotiations with EquIP had continued from when they too were in Matrix.

The new equIP voice division, headed by Alex Higham, will comprise of a limited number of select voice product ranges and has been set up to capitalise on the burgeoning number of IP Telephony opportunities and projects.

“Interest in IP Telephony continues unabated with the core driving force being VoIP. We’ve realised that there exists a gap in the market for a selection of products to address and support this demand in IP Voice and as such have created the Voice Division,” said Grahame Smee, Managing Director, equIP Technology. “Since inception, equIP’s strategy has been entirely focused on IP and the continual research and evaluation of new emerging technologies to expand our portfolio of award winning security and networking products. Our ability and commitment to identifying emerging technologies at an early stage and proven ability to introduce new products to the channel quickly and profitably has been key to our success. The launch of the Voice Division is a natural progression for equIP to take its IP skills and expertise into the voice arena.”

“EquIP’s success has been built on a clear and early understanding of market dynamics and sourcing innovative technologies that offer a competitive advantage and generate new business, “ said Paul Morgan, Head of Channel Sales, Siemens Communications. “Its real differentiator though is its value add approach built around its range of support service such as the Technical IP Services (TIPS) where it adds tangible value to resellers.”
