SMS text has a conscience

Mobile marketing company, Txtlocal are showing how the mobile industry can help the environment, and have donated their services to help worthwhile environment and Social Enterprise The Green Earth Appeal. The Green Earth Appeal work hard to deliver an outstanding initiative which successfully merges the joy of eating while simultaneously giving something back to nourish our planet.

The Green Earth Appeal are working with Txtlocal on their ‘Carbon Free Dining’ campaign, whereby diners have an opportunity to benefit from 2 for 1 meals or 50% off their food bill, in return for a text costing £1.50. This revenue is then used to pay to plant a tree through a United Nations Partner, to offset the carbon associated with the production, transportation and preparation of the meal, thus “Carbon Free Dining”

Txtlocal have become involved for the simple reason that their business function and ethos supports the fundamentals of the Green Earth Appeal’s aims. The ‘text to donate’ trees are planted in Africa, Asia and South America helping to rebalance areas pillaged by deforestation.

The way in which the Txtlocal system operates is environmentally responsible in itself. It is a paperless, electronic tool that enables businesses to communicate with their customers quickly and with very little harm to the environment. SMS text clearly helps the environment. Put simply, it eliminates the need for businesses to heavily rely on paper leaflets and documents as the only way to communicate with their customers.

Txtlocal says it understands the issues that organisations like The Green Earth Appeal face today.

With this in mind Txtlocal can now offer charities the option to generate even more income with the launch of their Charity Shortcode. This gives supporters the ability to make instant donations via SMS to their chosen Charity. Using a Charity Short Code to collect donations means that a Charity can benefit from receiving the full cost of the donation, less the cost of the Network Handling Charge, meaning that a greater proportion of money goes to the Charity for every donation made.
