THUS Delivers Open Fibre Network to Support Learning In Central London

THUS has announced that it has signed a contract with Queen Mary, University of London for the provision of an open fibre network that will carry the institution’s data and telephone networks between its four core sites, improving its ability to deliver core network services effectively.

Queen Mary is one of the largest multi-faculty colleges of the University of London delivering world class degree programmes and research across a wide range of subjects including Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Humanities, Science and Engineering. The connections will run between the University’s four main campus locations in London’s East End and in the City of London and, in addition to supporting over 2800 staff with access to operational applications and databases, will provide enhanced access to the academic community, both faculty and student.

The THUS next-generation network (NGN) solution will offer the College improved reliability and scalability while enabling more effective provision of Network services. It will provide a gateway to improve collaborative working with the wider academic research community. The open fibre network will enable a variety of applications including collaborative tools in support of e-science, video conferencing as well as providing more consistent access to JANET (UK’s Joint Academic Network which connects educational networks across the UK and around the world), at each of the core sites.
