Thus Powers Utility’s Communication Network

Thus has announced that it has signed a contract with ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN) to deploy a new next-generation telecoms infrastructure across all of the company’s transmission substation sites. The network will carry operational IP applications and will allow for the retirement of legacy networks as part the NGN deployment.

SPEN, which runs electricity supply network businesses in Central and Southern Scotland, in the English Midlands and in Wales, is using the next-generation network (NGN) to run voice and data services into transmission substations. All the network traffic, consisting of telemetry and remote monitoring, voice traffic, inter-site communication and site to control centre links, is operation critical.

Thus has significant experience in the Utilities Sector and was chosen to deliver this network, extending to 300 sites in 130 locations as the solution it offered delivered in terms of both quality and price along with improved efficiency and flexibility SPEN initiated this project to realise Operational Expenditure savings aligned to their asset management policy.
