Viatel Turbocharge Broadband for Convergence

Viatel has launched MAXStream Broadband, its new uncontended (1:1) ADSL service, which offers resellers a cost effective alternative to leased lines because it provides up to three times the upstream bandwidth (832kbps) of traditional ADSL. The service guarantees performance and is according to the company ideal for converged services and also allows resellers to run more VoIP calls and data traffic on a single ADSL line than previously possible, meaning greater margins on hosted services.

"With the increasing popularity of VoIP and other hosted applications there is a real demand for networks that support these," said Neil Watson, channel director, Viatel. "Resellers offering hosted applications are currently forced to pay more for leased lines or compromise on quality. Viatel MAXStream offers an uncontended, cost effective ADSL line that can serve offices of up to 30 employees on a single line. Resellers will benefit from flat rate monthly charges with no hidden costs involved and greater margins than previously possible."

MAXStream allows resellers to provide their own custom network and internet service to end users by interconnecting with Viatel. Benefits for customers include faster delivery of email attachments and increased capacity and reliability. Unlike Leased Lines, MAXStream is available at a national flat rate charge, but because it is an ADSL service it is available to 99.97% of the UK.

"Many small and medium businesses may have been reluctant to move to a fully converged network due to concerns over quality of service and reliability vs. cost," said Neil Watson, channel director, Viatel. MAXStream will now open up a larger market for resellers for reliable high margin services."

The service is available now and can be bought as 512kbps up and download (giving a symmetrical service), 1Mbps and 2Mbps download (both with up to 832kbps upload). In addition MAXStream is offered as a bonded service whereby between two and four ADSL lines are bonded together.
