Westcon Group Names New Hires

Distributor Westcon Group has announced that Bob Clinton has been named senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Westcon Group. In this position, he has responsibility for Westcon Group's entire global marketing organisation, including its Comstor, Westcon Convergence and Westcon Security business units. Clinton's appointment comes as Westcon Group celebrates its 25th anniversary this June.

Seperately Westcon UK has appointed Helen Briggs as Head of Sales for their newly combined Avaya and Nortel business.

Briggs said, “I worked for a Reseller (KCom) in the Public Sector industry for over 7 years mainly focusing on Account Management for the North West NHS Trusts, during this time I worked with NHSNet and SUPERJANET contracts/opportunities. The role was primarily solution selling including Managed Services, Technology, Communications and minutes.

I then joined distribution (Avnet) as Business Unit Manager for Nortel in late 2006, I was responsible in transforming the portfolio to include Voice and enabled this to sit along the existing data offering. During 2009 I worked very closely with Nortel and managed to pull through the Chapter 11 with a profitable result in Sales for the business.

I joined Westcon in January 2010 and aim to share my existing skill-set that I have built upon in one channel into the combined New Channel working with our partners on status, accreditation and growth. I believe, Westcon has the right investment in place to service our business partners and help them to achieve incremental business across multiple technology offerings.”

Westcon says Bob Clinton brings a strong and extensive background within the technology industry to Westcon, having spent over 25 years in key executive roles at Codex Corporation, Motorola, Inc., and CA, Inc. During his tenure at Motorola, he served in a variety of management positions of increasing responsibility including product marketing, strategic planning, field and channel sales and marketing, and vertical marketing. In 1994, he co-founded Motorola.com and led several of the company's customer-oriented global online initiatives. While at CA, he held several key executive positions with global responsibility, the most recent of which was as senior vice president of marketing planning and operations.

"I am delighted to have someone of Bob's caliber and expertise become part of the Westcon Group management team as we implement our aggressive growth strategy for the coming decade," noted Dean Douglas, president and CEO of Westcon Group. "Bob's extensive marketing background combined with his industry experience will be invaluable given the rapid changes in today's technology markets. His leadership qualities, analytical skills, and customer-centric mindset will have a very positive impact in defining how Westcon is constantly committed to improving how we engage with our partners and customers around the world."

"I am very excited to be joining Westcon Group, a company that has built a legacy of success on anticipating the IT networking needs of its customers," added Clinton. "Ever since Westcon was founded 25 years ago, the company has stayed true to its philosophy of helping its customers be more competitive. As our manufacturer partners and customers approach a new decade, Westcon will continue to identify and deliver transformational technologies that help businesses become more efficient and profitable."

"My marketing and management philosophy has always been 'customer-centric' and 'data-driven,'" Clinton continued. "This encourages both customer intimacy and transparency of performance. In the drive towards continued operational excellence, our marketing efforts will focus on four core elements: communication, collaboration, consistency and commitment."
