Westell Launches IP Migration Convergence Switch

Convergence gateways and broadband access solutions specialist Westell has launched their InterChange Convergence Switch - ICS3. The company says the products is designed to move organisations towards IP whilst protecting the investment already made on legacy PBX systems and presents a risk free migration path to true network convergence supporting both VoIP and IP Telephony (IPT) interworking.

The ICS3 can be deployed on any DPNSS, QSIG or Q.931 network and provides three choices to an organisation; move to VoIP whilst retaining central business critical services; gradually phase in IP telephony in a controlled manner; or use both VoIP and IP Telephony in the same converged and resilient network.

“Enterprise customers tell us that the debate is no longer about whether to converge on IP but how to get there,” explains Westell Marketing Director, Vaughn Armstrong. “All IP solutions aimed at simply ripping and replacing legacy infrastructure have met a huge cost, downtime and risk barrier. ICT Directors and Telecoms Managers are looking for an alternative migration solution that can ease this transition and cure their convergence headaches. The ICS3 gives them that migration solution with maximum flexibility and functionality with minimum disruption and no risk.”

The ICS3 comes with nine pre-defined applications built in for common deployment scenarios, enabling configuration in as little as four mouse clicks. The ability to backup and restore the configuration of a unit means that in the unlikely event of a failure, a replacement can be installed to the exact same configuration in minutes.

In addition, ICS3 boasts a web based Management System and a Route Wizard; an intuitive Java based application designed for ease of use and minimum training. The wizard guides the user through the generation, change and management of all routing, keeping a complete record in a single place enabling smooth updates of an entire network at the click of a button.

“Regardless of the IP migration route chosen, installing an ICS3 between the PBX and the LAN provides all the integration needed without any loss of voice quality or functionality of the network,” adds Armstrong. “The ICS3 builds on the success of our InterChange product portfolio already used by customers in the Public Sector, Finance and Emergency Services to bridge between traditional voice and new IP networks.”
