Yahoo! still reigns in mobile performance for June

Keynote Systems has revealed its June Mobile Performance Index for the UK, with Yahoo! still at the top. Yahoo! continued to have the shortest download time amongst all mobile sites. Google and Facebook followed Yahoo! yet were far lower than the industry index.

This month again saw a different mobile site come out winner in the availability category. The Weather Channel came on top with 97.93% availability and was followed by Yahoo! and the BBC site. Google came in fifth and were barely better than the industry average. Hugely popular social networking site, Facebook, continues to have reliability issues with 96.59% availability.

Online publication, Time, moved from the second spot to the top spot in the download speed category. Time had a download speed of 2714 bytes per second, well ahead of MSN who had a download speed of 2593 bytes per second.

Eurosports had a terrible month in mobile, coming last in all three categories. It had a download time close of 20 seconds and availability as low as 96.39%.

“Mobile web sites are still plagued by unreliable performance,” said Nisheeth Mohan, product manager, mobile at Keynote Systems. “Eurosports had a highest download speed in May, but this month they were at the bottom.”
