Sony Ericsson has reported net income for 2005 of E356m, better than 12% up on the year before.

Sales were up about 11.6% at E7.26bn. That figure was boosted by the success of the Walkman music phones; 3m have been shipped since the W800 was launched in August. In the year as a whole, Sony Ericsson shipped 51.2m devices, compared with 42.5m in 2004. Over 16m of them came in Q4, a record for the company. “We are now seeing the benefit of our earlier investments in research and development which have enabled us to expand the product line-up and successfully appeal to new consumers with products like the Walkman phone series,” said CEO Miles Flint.
