Carphone are giving away free laptops as an incentive to sign up to AOL broadband, but Thursday they'll be going one step more and leaving laptops on the streets for people to pick up.
From Thursday morning, Carphone will be dumping Dell laptops, worth £450 each, at major landmarks in Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham and Southampton. Anyone who spots one of the machines should take it to their local store to be registered, with no hidden charges or costs.
As well as a free laptop, the lucky finders will be given two years' worth of free broadband. The laptop give-away coincides with a wider promotion offering the first 200,000 people subscribing to AOL Broadband via Carphone Warehouse a free Dell laptop.
The organisers claim they decided not to include London in the event as they were looking for an even distribution across the country, and the event would have more impact in smaller cities.
