Few people are indifferent about Nokia’s L’Amour handsets, and certainly the 7390 isn’t an obvious love-at-first-sight phone. After a week of using it, however, we’d changed our minds: the 7390 now seems a well-nigh perfect combination of style and function, with evidence of a lot of care even in the smallest details.
The spec is certainly pretty good – 3G, 128MB memory card in the box, 3.2mp camera, stereo FM radio with music player – but it’s the usability that impresses. You get two colourful displays, the S40 3rd Edition user interface with active stand-by display, and a standard 2.5mm jack for earphones; and Nokia seems to have woken up lately and has finally started to equip its models with a miniUSB connector.
Drawbacks? Most of them are nit-picking – camera could be better, no RDS in the radio, a slight delay in phone reactions, the keys are initially a bit uncomfortable to use. You do get used to that, however, and the only major problem would appear to be a SIM-free price around E380 – enough to pay for much a better-specified phone. Let’s see what the network subsidies do for that.
