Risk Scores on telecoms-related business

Top credit reference agency ICC Credit has been running Risk Scores on telecoms-related business in the UK. The score is a predictor of whether a company will fail within the next 12 months and takes into account variables such as financial, demographic and trading criteria. 100 is safe, 0 is dead in the water. Fascinating stuff:

Orange
98
Vodafone Group
96
Cable & Wireless
94
O2
92
BT Group
88
Energis
73
Virgin Mobile
64
Telewest
60
T-Mobile
54
Ntl
46

The relatively low scores for Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile certainly stand out here in marked contrasted to those clocking up more than 90. Orange and Vodafone obviously gain from their size, but global reach and the backing of Deutsch Telecom don’t seem to have done much to help T-Mobile ...

Matthew Debbage of ICC Credit commented: “The Risk Score reflects the stability of market leading companies, with all of the scores being around 90. However the low score of Ntl and Telewest might indicate some of the reasons behind the recent merger”.
