Look and feel:
Usual Samsung build quality, excellent slider; slimmer but deeper than KG800, and not as comfortable in the hand. Styling seems slightly cruder, too. Still a fine piece of work though.
8/10

Externals:
Mostly gloss finish with some matt – attracts smudges. Effective rocker buttons around the edge selects camera/music player, controls volume. Touch-sensitive call/cancel and softkeys light up white; navigation by pressure on metallic square; only the necessary buttons are lit, minimising accidental touches on buttons.
7/10

Keyboard:
Keypad is narrower than LG but keys could still be better defined.
Good white backlighting, though.
7/10

Display:
Excellent – 240x320 pixels, 262k colours. Features new user interface showing the submenu list and highlighting fonts for optimal viewing.
9/10

Memory:
Generous: 80MB in the phone plus memory card expansion.
9/10

Camera:
2mp with flash and video recording. No zoom, but lots of effects and options. Pics are pretty good: contrast could be better.
7/10

MANAGING MUSIC:
Basic interface with multiple playlists.
7/10

PLAYING music:
Speaker is tinny, headphones not much better, equalizer presets don’t make too much difference . Output to Bluetooth speakers/phones is a useful option.
7/10

In Use:
Touch-sensitive ‘keys’ are ok, but the sideways/up-and-down selector bezel is a bit too sensitive. You do get used to it eventually ...
8/10

Extras:
TV out, good games
7/10

WE LIKE:
• Clever touch-buttons, minimise accidental touches.
• Music and camera capabilities including enough memory
• New Samsung menu structure

WE DON’T LIKE:
• Keyboard
• Fingerprints
• So-so battery life

Overall:
A nice phone with a very good spec but a couple of quirks and/or irritations. And it’s not quite as stylish as it thinks it is ...
