Sharp EM ONE UMPC

Sharp have officially announced the EM ONE ultra mobile PC. The phone cum computer runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and has a huge 4.1 inch display, and a unique two way sliding qwerty keyboard.

Strictly speaking, the EM ONE is not a phone, but a data-only device. It does supports HSDPA though, with a maximum downlink speed of 3.6Mbps. The unit also has built-in 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 1.2, along with a terrestrial digital broadcast television receiver.

The EM ONE is the first W-VGA (800 X 480 dot) with Windows Mobile 5.0, and is also equipped with the industry’s first 4.1 inch high definition LCD screen, meaning users can view websites with the chore of horizontal scrolling. Unfortunately the screen only has 65k colours.

The innovative two-way sliding keypad slides down to reveal the QWERTY keyboard, or to the right to make the scroll wheel and pointing device accessible.

The EM ONE is available is being launched in Japan at the end of this month ahead of a possible global launch later in the year.
