Sony Ericsson P990

Networks & Network Services
Sony Ericsson’s new flagship has every possible current connectivity feature including WiFi and 3G, an autofocus 2mp camera, a second video-call camera...
a conventional keypad on a removable flip along with a QWERTY keyboard, Memory Stick slot with a 64MB card included, Walkman MP3 player and stereo FM radio with RDS, the latest Symbian 9.1 OS, a stunning gold game (on board is a true graphics hardware accelerator and Vijay Singh Pro Golf 2005 was specially developed to show off its capabilities) – and last but not least, an expansive 70mm-diameter touchscreen.
There aren’t too many downsides, but they may be significant. For one, the Symbian 9.1 OS with the UIQ 3.0 user interface currently lacks third-party applications; the main competitor – Windows Mobile in its various versions – has dozens, including lots of freeware.
More important, that user interface is not always as user-friendly as it might be, especially for the novice; the Series 60 user interface on some of Nokia’s smartphones is a lot easier to handle, and Windows will already be familiar to most users.
• No impulse buy, but for the right kind of user it will appeal immediately.
