2ergo, the global provider of mobile enabling technology, has appointed James Macdonald as head of media and entertainment. The appointment reflects 2ergo’s success in this dynamic market and the scale of opportunity for content owners and marketing agencies to capitalise on the potential of mobile.

Macdonald is a digital and mobile marketing specialist with a background in both digital and terrestrial media and has more than 20 years experience of working in media and entertainment. Prior to his appointment at 2ergo, Macdonald was director of sales at O2 Media, where he was responsible for setting up O2’s media division and developing the Telefonica O2 media proposition across the UK market. Before moving to O2, James was head of mobile at Unanimis overseeing its mobile media sales operations.

Chris Brassington, group managing director at 2ergo said: “Companies across the media and entertainment sectors need to embrace and take advantage of mobile technology. Mobile is fast becoming a critical communications channel and the preeminent way of engaging and drawing audiences closer to the brand. 2ergo has considerable experience of optimising and monetising media content for mobile and James’ experience will be invaluable as we continue to build on our record of success in the media and entertainment market."

Commenting on his appointment, James Macdonald said: “2ergo is an ambitious company, which is increasing its global footprint almost daily after a succession of strategic acquisitions last year. The company has an unrivalled and prestigious product suite offering clients a world class, 360 degree mobile technology service. My aim is to develop 2ergo’s already strong relationships and make the company the mobile partner of choice within the media and entertainment industry.”

2ergo helps major brands realise the opportunities of mobile and currently works with companies such as O2, Yahoo!, FOX News and the National Geographic Channel. It has recently produced hugely successful iPhone applications for Rightmove and Arsenal Football Club, both of which reached number one in their respective categories within one week of launch. As well as smartphone application development, 2ergo’s product portfolio includes an innovative suite of mobile publishing, content management, interactive messaging, ticketing and couponing, mobile payment, and security solutions.

Macdonald will be based at 2ergo’s recently expanded London offices in Bolsover Street, at the heart of London’s media and entertainment district.
