Alcatel-Lucent and Gamma target Enterprise SIP Connectivity

To enable more UK end-users to take advantage of IP networking and its benefits, Alcatel-Lucent and Gamma Telecom have formed a new partnership to provide Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking services for large enterprises.

Gamma’s SIP trunking service – available to Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise users in the UK – allows end-users to gain cost-effective and reliable connectivity to Gamma’s next generation pure IP network, in order to improve communications and boost productivity. SIP trunking service users can benefit from a range of innovative new communications such as geographic number flexibility as well as free internal and inter-site calling, lower external call costs and reduced line rental.

While many existing SIP trunk services are designed to cater for small- to medium-sized companies, the new Gamma and Alcatel-Lucent offering supports larger call volumes and offers high scalability for organisations that experience seasonal or peak periods of call activity.

“Enterprises are realising that SIP trunking can play a big part in reducing costs and in the delivery of integrated business solutions for increased productivity,” said Alan Mackie, senior product manager at Gamma Telecom. “Our SIP trunking partnership with Alcatel-Lucent provides a reliable, high quality service with a great deal of flexibility for the user in terms of being able to meet demand for higher traffic volumes as and when needed.”

Extensive testing has been performed to ensure interoperability between Alcatel-Lucent’s IP telephony platform and Gamma’s SIP trunking service, which connects enterprises to Gamma’s core IP network from any location, using a variety of different connectivity methods based on customer needs.

“The interoperability project with Gamma has been a great success, and we’re now able to offer a proven enterprise-class SIP trunking solution that can help large organisations throughout the UK save money and make money by achieving greater internal efficiencies,” said David Parker, VP enterprise activities for Alcatel-Lucent.
