Yeovil based Micron Communications has used state of the art Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology to make all calls between Audi Southwest’s dealerships free, dramatically reducing call costs across the Group. Micron has already connected 5 of the South West dealerships and has just agreed a contract to connect the rest of Audi South West’s sites.
Group IT Manager of Audi South West, Mike Davidson explains: ‘During these tough economic times we are thinking smart to reduce costs and improve efficiency and this system does exactly that. We make a very large volume of calls between our dealerships and TPS centres which were charged out at the standard rate. With the new system from Micron we can now make calls between our sites for free using the same phones that we use to make external calls. The technicians from Micron have done a fantastic job installing the system and we are delighted with how simple it is to use.’
Audi South West has eight sites throughout the region including Exeter, Plymouth and Taunton and the SIP system installed by Micron allows an unlimited number of calls to be made between these sites over the internet for no extra cost. SIP transforms speech into data packets and sends them across secure internet connections, similar to the way an email is sent. This process takes place in real time so as to achieve a two way conversation, just like any other phone call.
Jonny White from Micron communications comments: ‘With the volume of calls Audi South West makes internally they should recoup the money spent on installation within one year. This system is ideal for any multi-site business and is a great way of cutting costs in this current climate. The beauty of SIP technology is that it uses the existing broadband network as a tool to make calls at no extra cost. There are many exciting and useful capabilities that SIP technology has helped Audi South West with, but the key was that it will be saving them significant amounts for years to come.’
