Avaya Opens DevConnect Labs

The onward progress of voice and data integration has caused many PBX platform resellers to open up their products to third party applications. As a result, Avaya has announced the opening of compatibility testing labs in Germany and Singapore to support continued global growth of its highly successful DeveloperConnection Programme.

The Avaya DeveloperConnection Programme promotes the development, testing and co-marketing of third-party products that are compatible with Avaya solutions. Member organisations have expertise in a broad range of technologies that includes IP telephony, contact centres and mobility applications – helping companies extend the value of multivendor networks and transform voice into a business application that delivers value to the bottom line.

In Germany, Avaya’s DevConnect Solution Interoperability and Test Lab is based in Frankfurt and co-located with research and development at the Avaya-Tenovis facility. Avaya completed its acquisition of Tenovis, a major European provider of enterprise communications systems and services, in late 2004.

The DevConnect lab in Frankfurt supports compliance testing for a range of Avaya IP telephony platforms including the Avaya Communication Manager, Avaya IP Office, and the I5 and I55 IP PBX communication systems.

DevConnect member CTI Data Solutions, a UK-based provider of integrated communications management software, is currently testing its Proteus application with several platforms at Avaya’s Business Convergence Centre in Guildford. Proteus is an advanced management information application that provides total visibility of phone costs and usage. The product has recently completed compliance testing with the Avaya Communication Manager and IP Office platforms.

Adrian Burt, Senior VP for Sales & Marketing at CTI Data Solutions told Comms Business Magazine, "Proteus is supported by all major PBX vendors and Avaya is clearly one of the significant global players both in the channel and certain vertical markets where our products are dominant. Avaya is leading the way in IP Telephony where the worldwide sales of IP PBX systems increased in all regions in Q2 2005 compared to 2004 according to analysts MZA. Avaya accounts for just under twenty percent of all IP extension sold which means that when it comes to voice and data call management applications CTI Group channel partners have a fantastic opportunity to gain incremental sales.”

“The Avaya DeveloperConnection Programme in Guildford has been running in this region for over four years, and the addition of the Frankfurt lab further enhances our ability to deliver compliance testing for EMEA-based members of the programme.” said David Sheldon, director of the Avaya DevConnect Programme in Europe, the Middle East & Africa. “Providing more local access makes it easier for our DevConnect members based in EMEA to test interoperability with Avaya solutions and furthers our goal of providing our customers with a broad array of innovative, feature-rich IP applications for intelligent business communications.“

The Avaya DeveloperConnection Programme currently includes more than 1,300 software and hardware developer companies, integrators, service providers and customers from around the world. Members have created hundreds of innovative applications tested for Avaya compliance, including natural language speech recognition, wireless services, specialised computer telephony integration and reporting capabilities, and applications tailored for specific vertical industries.
