O2 has appointed BE Wholesale to supply the connectivity for its market-changing public Wi-Fi platform, O2 Wifi. O2’s premium hotspots will be managed through partnerships with key venue owners and be open for all customers to access for free, no matter which mobile or broadband provider they are with.
BE Wholesale will support the Wi-Fi platform with its high quality, low contended and reliable network built for broadband and unconstrained by legacy infrastructure. O2 is aiming to double the number of premium hotspots currently offered by BT Openzone and The Cloud combined by 2013.
Head of BE Wholesale, Dan Cunliffe, said, “Having only recently launched as BE wholesale it’s fantastic that O2 is drawing on our unrivalled quality and reliable network to support one of the latest market initiatives. O2 has long been a market-leader in the provision of public Wi-Fi services across mobile devices, introducing unlimited Wi-Fi access included in iPhone tariffs over three years ago. While enabling consumers to stay connected, the launch of O2 Wifi will also provide business users with a robust Wi-Fi network capable of supporting professional applications such as VoIP and video conferencing.
O2’s Gavin Franks said, “For the launch of our new Wi-Fi offering, we needed a provider who could manage the heavy network demands of our users. With one of the largest ADSL2+ networks in the UK, BE Wholesale is the perfect partner to roll out our O2 Wifi service.”
