Bolton College Chooses Extreme Networks

Extreme Networks says that it will be implementing the IT network at Bolton College’s new £70 million state-of-the-art campus. The network will introduce and host range of new services including Voice over IP (VoIP), IPTV and CCTV. The implementation will be completed in partnership with Extreme Networks’ partner, Pennine Telecom in time for the opening of the new campus in September 2010.

Bolton College is one of the largest providers of vocational training and further education in North West England. The new Deane Road building will be the home of the College IT network and it will also span six further sites located throughout the town including its three libraries, classrooms and student areas.

The network will be built on an infrastructure that comprises Extreme Networks’ BlackDiamond 8810, Summit X650 and X450 switches and will be easily managed and maintained using the EPICenter Network Management tool. It will provide the fundamental security and reliability that the college needs in order to introduce a range of triple play services such as VoIP, CCTV and IPTV, as well as providing wireless networking for staff and students.

IT manager at Bolton College, Railton Knott states: “The new campus is one of the most exciting developments in the long history of our College and indeed the town. With Extreme Networks we are creating an IT infrastructure that will compliment this state-of-the art building and deliver the applications and services required by the staff and students of the entire College, today and in the future.”

Regional Director for UK and Ireland at Extreme Networks, Gary Newbold, adds: “Helping Bolton College presents us with an opportunity to showcase the scalability and flexibility of Extreme Networks’ technologies. We look forward to the opening of the new campus in September and a long and successful relationship with the college.”
