Wireless connectivity ranges from over 19,000 wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) hotspots (extending to more than 30,000 hotspots worldwide in 2006) to in-flight wireless to 3G mobile services. According to a recent study by IDC, more than 50% of all employees in Western Europe are potential mobile workers. The European Commission itself has endorsed the growth of flexible working, implementing a series of strategies and policies in its eEurope 2005 initiative designed to create the conditions for change in existing jobs, generate new working methods, and allow greater flexibility in the workplace.
