BT wins Sky Talk business

BSkyB has signed an agreement with BT to provide a wholesale voice service to its 1.1 million Sky Talk customers. In the process Sky has ended its relationship with Thus Group, which is already facing a takeover bid from Cable & Wireless.

“In the last year alone over 740,000 new customers have joined Sky Talk for great value calls,” said Delia Bushell, director of broadband and telephony, BSkyB. This deal with BT will maintain our quality of service and ensure that we enjoy increasing cost efficiencies as we continue to grow the service.”

Customers will be migrated to the BT Wholesale platform over the next few months.

The move by BSkyB to BT from THUS has been seen by many as a big blow to the Glasgow based network operator and will, said one industry insider, leave a £70 million whole in THUS over the next three years.
